Your Ultimate Guide To Rapunzel Hair

green beauty hair tips

Even though I am in the biz of beauty, I have never been one to pay too much attention to the trends, and that is certainly very true when it comes to hair trends. I know I love my stylist and I know I love what she does. This doesn't mean I'm not adventurous; in fact, I have tried a few styles (the shaved side head (thanks RiRi for the inspo), the bowl bob (think Karen O from the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs) and now, I'm loving my long locks and  wearing it au naturale. Lucky me, as I have a beautiful natural wave that looks adorable with a top knot. Yes, a trend.

The key to gorgeous hair is healthy hair. Below are some of my dietary tricks that I incorporate to keep my mane shiny and soft. Eating a variety of foods will provide you with the nutrients you need to grow the healthiest hair ever.

 1. Zinc - If you know me, you know I love recommending zinc to help with skin issues. Turns out, this mineral is also imperative for hair health! It helps with the protein production, which in turn keeps those follicles healthy! Zinc is also believed to be crucial for the normal division of hair follicle cells due to its role in DNA production. Hello luscious locks!

2. Omega 3 Fatty Acids - Yes, fats; it is true that certain fats can be good for you. Certain good fats, like those found in fatty fish (like salmon), chia seeds and walnuts help you hydrate your hair from the inside and say no to dry, brittle hair. You can still totally use that coconut oil hair mask for a treatment, but do not discount the power of internal nourishment!

3. Biotin - It is widely believed that this B Complex Vitamin helps the keratin infrastructure - the basic protein that makes up your hair (and skin and nails), which makes it essential to maintain healthy, happy hair. Where do you find biotin? Eggs and pumpkin seeds are two good sources. Check out this Pumpkin Seed Overnight Oats recipe.

It really does matter what we put into our bodies, after all our nourishment becomes the building blocks of our health. However, external factors also contribute to whether or not your hair splits or shines. Over processing your hair, and even over-washing don't do you any favours; but you already knew that. I do try to limit the amount of heat styling tools I use as well; dry shampoo has become a best friend. One of my favourites is the Kaia Naturals

And regular cuts, along with gentle, sulfate free shampoos, like Yarok's Feed Your Moisture, keep me in the race to be Rapunzel's twin.
