Body Oils & Why We Love Them

Obsessed you would say I was, if you saw my collection of facial oils; from Rosehip to Squalane to Marula and everything in between - I just love them! To me, they are the ultimate powerhouses; potent and loaded with anti-oxidants, no water, no fillers. I love how they instantly hydrate and plump, give an instant glow and how overtime, they can be effective in reducing fine lines, how they stimulate collagen production and even have the ability to reduce hyper-pigmentation.

But what about for the rest of the body? Can oils be used? You bet! In fact, I also love moisturizing with body oils - especially when the days are warm and my skin shows…. The oils leave my skin shiny in an oh-so-sexy way! I do use them consistently though throughout the year. And in colder months, they deliver rich hydration to keep flaky skin at bay.

Body oils offer similar benefits to facial oils - they are just as supportive of overall skin health. However, their focus is to hydrate and offer moisture to the skin - from neck to toes. They can also be used to soothe dry cuticles; smooth rough, damaged split ends; and condition eyebrows.

Body oils can be used as perfume alternative too - in an uber subtle way. Body oils are generally made up of a base of what are known as ‘dry oils’ and they act as a perfect fragrance carrier. Essential oils can be added to achieve heavenly and complex scent profiles…. Tulsi & Ashwagandha Adaptogen Body Oil from Apoterra, happens to be a fave as I love the romantic and warm notes of lavender, orange, and patchouli.

Apoterra Body Oil

We really just swoon over, the Tulsi & Ashwagandha Adaptogen Body Oil from Apoterra - infused with the power of Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil, this body oil delivers deep hydration and nourishment to your skin. It helps soothe and calm irritated skin, making it perfect for sensitive or dry skin types. With its delightful aroma and non-greasy texture, Apoterra's Tulsi Body Oil provides a sensorial self-care experience, leaving your skin feeling soft, supple, and beautifully revitalized.

How to use them best? After showering is best; your damp skin allows the oils to penetrate and absorb faster. This takes about a minute or so. And they keep best in bottles made of dark glass and definitely store away from light.

Want to incorporate some but not sure what oils to start with? Look for these key ingredients:

Pomegranate oil pampers by delivering the nutrients that dry skin naturally craves. It is a rich source of omega fatty acids so it is very hydrating - especially for drier skin-types. Try The Cure's Body Serum to reap all the benefits of pomegranate and Irish sea moss.

Jojoba oil promotes elasticity and regenerates skin texture. It closely mimics our skin’s sebum so is super quick to absorb! And this is absolutely what we want when we have to get ready and get dressed! Try Indie Lee's De-Stress Body Oil and bring all the Mondays!

Sesame oil has properties that helps treat dryness; it nourishes & protects! Our fave ayurvedic brand Sahajan has the beautiful Ritual Body Oil which offers a blend of coconut, almond and sesame oils that is sure to become part of your favourite self-care ritual.

Body oils really are the secret to giving your skin an unrivalled glow. Remember it is best to apply to the skin after a bath or shower. Lightly stroke it into the skin and allow the oil to really penetrate.

And for extra skin-soft results, exfoliate your skin first …. But let’s leave those steps for another post….
